Jazz Fest After Dark Set to Return; Growth in 5th Year

jazz fest after dark

Jazz Fest After Dark in partnership with the City of Jacksonville and Downtown Vision will return to Downtown Jacksonville from May 26-27, 2017. Building on early success and positive feedback from venues and participants the goal is to extend the Jacksonville Jazz Festival experience for festival goers and introduce them to Downtown’s vibrant nightlife options. Utilizing an expanded footprint, the event is set to boast thirteen official host venues with more than forty acts.

“We started Jazz Fest After Dark because we wanted to give Jazz Fest attendees a reason to stay Downtown after the last acts of the day wrapped up” said Jazz Fest After Dark founder Jason Huckleberry Lewis. “Live music is a big component of Downtown’s Nightlife and gives the local businesses an opportunity to showcase their talents while working with the Jacksonville Jazz Festival.”

Headline acts will include Stank Sauce, Groove Coalition, Raisin Cake Orchestra and the Nan Nkama Pan-African Drum & Dance Ensemble, who will perform in Downtown Jacksonville for the first time at Jazz Fest After Dark. While most acts are local, Leisure Chief and Drew Tucker and the New Standard will be traveling all the way from Orlando and Boca Raton to perform. Live music will run from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday at participating venues and entry will be free.

Participating venues will include:

  • 1904 Music Hall | 19 N. Ocean St.
  • 5 & Dime, A Theatre Co. | 112 Adams St.

About Jazz Fest After Dark

Like most people who start anything, our founders saw a gap in a market and decided it was important enough to fill. For over 30 years, the Jacksonville Jazz Festival brought thousands to our Downtown, only to send them home when the sun went down. With the ongoing revitalization of Downtown Jax, and its ever-growing nightlife scene, why not give these attendees a reason to stay? And while they’re at it, why not appeal to an even broader audience. In 2013, Jazz Fest After Dark was born!
