{"id":9262,"date":"2019-06-01T03:38:02","date_gmt":"2019-06-01T03:38:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jacksonvillejazzfest.com\/?p=9262"},"modified":"2021-07-20T03:40:45","modified_gmt":"2021-07-20T03:40:45","slug":"lineup-announced-for-2019-jax-jazz-festival-wjct-launches-pop-up-jazz-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jacksonvillejazzfest.com\/_ARC\/2019\/06\/lineup-announced-for-2019-jax-jazz-festival-wjct-launches-pop-up-jazz-station\/","title":{"rendered":"Lineup Announced For 2019 Jax Jazz Festival; WJCT Launches Pop-Up Jazz Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gladysknight.com\/\">Gladys Knight<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianculbertson.com\/\">Brian Culbertson<\/a>\u00a0will be the headliners at this year\u2019s Jacksonville Jazz Festival that will be held on Memorial Day weekend, May 23 \u2013 26.<\/p>\n<p>Best known for her hit with the Pips, \u201cMidnight Train to Georgia,\u201d Knight gained widespread fame and is known as the Empress of Soul.<\/p>\n<p>Jazz, funk and R&amp;B artist Brian Culbertson is known for smooth jazz hits like \u201cAlways Remember\u201d and \u201cHookin\u2019 Up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other performers set to appear include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monty Alexander<\/li>\n<li>Ledisi<\/li>\n<li>Kirk Whalum<\/li>\n<li>Alfredo Rodriguez Trio<\/li>\n<li>Avery\u2019s Sunshine<\/li>\n<li>Terence Blanchard feat. the E-Collective<\/li>\n<li>Norman Brown<\/li>\n<li>Camila Meza Quartet<\/li>\n<li>Greg Adams &amp; East Bay Soul<\/li>\n<li>Moonchild<\/li>\n<li>Jazmin Ghent<\/li>\n<li>Amina Scott<\/li>\n<li>Jamison Ross<\/li>\n<li>Brass-A-Holics<\/li>\n<li>The Noel Freidline Quartet with Maria Howell<\/li>\n<li>LPT<\/li>\n<li>The Delfini Jazz Sextet feat. Jacksonville University jazz faculty and alumni<\/li>\n<li>Dennis Marks<\/li>\n<li>Clyde Connor<\/li>\n<li>The University of North Florida Jazz Ensemble<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As in years past, the festival will kick off with a piano competition Thursday night. It will be held at the Florida Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>Friday through Sunday most of the music will be heard at the two main stages, which are at Hemming Park and in front of the Duval County Courthouse. The full performance schedule with times and locations is available at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jacksonvillejazzfest.com\/_ARC\/schedule\/\">Jazz Fest\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Ritz Theatre &amp; Museum, Breezy Jazz Club on West Adams Street, and the Omni Hotel will also host events as part of the festival.<\/p>\n<p>A Second Line Jazz Parade will be held on Saturday, May 25, at the corner of Broad and Adams streets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pop-Up Jazz HD Radio Channel Launches Ahead Of The Festival<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WJCT has launched a 24\/7 HD radio jazz channel at 89.9-4.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve got 4,000 songs in rotation. We&#8217;re calling it Pop-Up Jazz to help get you in the mood for the big jazz festival,&#8221; said WJCT Radio Manager David Luckin, who curated the channel.<\/p>\n<p>Luckin said he\u2019d love to hear from listeners who enjoy the channel at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/music@wjct.org\/\">music@wjct.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>HD Radio comes standard in many newer automobiles and home receivers.\u00a0 It provides CD-quality sound along with song title information.
